Louisburgh Parish
St. Patrick's Church,
Co. Mayo

A talk on the historical context, architectural design and conservation of St. Patrick's Church, Louisburgh will be held in the church in Monday the 21st August at 7.30pm.

The church was erected c.1860 to a design by John Sterling Butler (b.1816) on a site donated rent free by George John Browne (1820-1896) 3rd Marquess of Sligo. The talk will recount the story of building such a substantial church in a small town in the west of Ireland in the mid 19th century and will look at changes that took place in the 1950s and 1970s and at conservation issues faced today. An exhibition to accompany the talk will be on display in the church from the 19th August.
